Families at Courtenay Elementary School in Uptown are food insecure.

- 93% of Courtenay students are low income..
- 21% are unhoused.
- Courtenay offers early childhood education for students as young as 3 years old.
Now our community is being even harder hit by the delay in SNAP benefits, so we are raising money to send students home on Fridays with small food packs to get them through the weekend.
In the spirit of collective assistance, 19th Ward Mutual Aid is accepting monetary donations on our behalf while Friends of Courtenay awaits its nonprofit status. All money raised will be used to provide food packs for students to pick up at school.
We estimate packs will cost $10.10 each and will tentatively contain:
| Shelf stable milk, 8 oz. | 1.00 |
| Granola bars (3 @ .30 ea.) | .90 |
| Applesauce pack (2@ .50 ea.) | 1.00 |
| Mac and cheese | 1.00 |
| Cup noodles | .60 |
| Tuna salad kit | 2.00 |
| Rice – 1 lb. | 1.00 |
| Beans – dried, 1 lb. | 1.00 |
| String cheese (2@.50 ea.) | 1.00 |
| Individual oatmeal packet (2@.30) | .60 |
